7 Layer Salad

I must say that I get my cooking skills from my mother and grandmother. My mom cooked dinner at least 5 nights a week when I was growing up. There was nothing better than a warm southern meal after a long day. This is also the time that I learned butter was a major food group. As I got older, I took the skills that I learned over the years and adapted many recipes with a modern twist.

This recipe is for a 7 layer salad. I absolutely love eating salads, and the best part it that they tend to be healthier than most other options. However, there is nothing worse than eating a salad that is not filling. This 7 layer salad includes a vast ingredient list but is simple to make. It is perfect for a family dinner or even a cook out.


1 1/2 cup of light mayonnaise

2 Tb sugar

1 large head of chopped iceberg lettuce

1 medium red onion (diced)

1 bag of frozen peas

5 hard-boiled eggs

3 cups of sharp cheddar cheese

1 pound of cooked bacon



  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sugar to make the dressing. Set aside.
  2. In a large baking bowl (clear), layer the salad in the following order: lettuce, onion, peas, sliced eggs. Repeat until all ingredients have been used.
  3. Completely cover the salad with the dressing.
  4. Sprinkle with Cheese.
  5. Add bacon crumbles.
  6. Cover in plastic and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour
  7. Enjoy!
